The Canada Caregiver Program offered by the Canadian government is designed to aid children, elderly people, or people with disabilities to have the necessary care. Canada Live-in Caregiver Program

This program allows the employed person to live and work in the same place. People who meet the required eligibility criteria can be employed under this program. The main advantage for the employed person is if they successfully fulfill 2 years of work; 3900 hours of full-time work to be specific; they can apply for Canadian permanent residency. The eligibility criteria for live-in caregivers in Canada are:

• A valid work permit under the Canada Caregiver Program

• Must have relevant work experience as a Home Child Care Provider/Home Support Worker of 1 year at least

• The applicant should have a worker in a job that matches the necessary National Occupational Classification Code

• They should meet the necessary language and educational requirements

Home Child Care Provider Pilot

This subcategory under the Canada live-in Caregiver Program is for the people who are interested to work as a child care provider which involves meeting the basic needs of the child, bathing, feeding, making formulas, and changing diapers with other child-related duties. The interested people should apply under one of the given titles:

• Babysitter

• Live-in child caregiver

• Private home child caregiver

• Nanny

• Parent's helper

• Foster Parents

• Babysitter in a public setting (Gym/Shopping Centre)

Home Support Worker Pilot

A person who is able to care for an elderly person or any person with a disability can apply under this subcategory of the Canada Caregiver Program. Their main duties or role of responsibilities will include caring for and helping the elderly/disabled person in doing basic everyday tasks, providing assistance in maintaining their hygiene, laundry and keeping a track of their medications, and caring for them at the time of incapacitation or family disruptions along with more tasks. The interested people should apply under one of the given titles:

• Attendants for persons with disabilities

• Family caregiver

• Home support 

• Housekeeper live-in caregiver for seniors

• Home Support and personal aide

• Respite Worker

Requirement for Employers

Other than the eligibility criteria required for employees, there are certain requirements for employers as well that must be met. These are:

• Make sure you have relevant documents to prove that you are either a Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident

• You must provide reasonable living space to the caregiver

• Along with the above requirement, you must also pay the employee minimum wage according to Canadian Standards

• The job position should only be for children, elderly people, or a person with a disability

• Before employing the employers should make sure that the caregiver is willing to live-in full time and carries a positive LMIA with them

• The employer must prepare a contract mentioning all the relevant details of the employment including wages, working hours, vacations and permissible paid leave, and any other details discussed between the employer and the caregiver
