One of the fastest regulatory reforms implemented by the province this year was Ontario’s recent revision of the eligibility standards for its two provincial social assistance programs.
Beginning on August 13, 2026, those in Canada without legal authorization will not be eligible to get financial aid via the Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program.
Additionally, the changed rules prohibit temporary residents, such as those with work permits, study permits, or visitors or tourists, from accessing either program.
