Before hiring a foreign worker in the low-wage stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), employers are now required to advertise for a longer period of time and attempt to recruit young people.

Employers wishing to submit for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program’s (TFWP) low-wage stream must post job openings for at least eight consecutive weeks starting on April 1, 2026, which is double the previous threshold of four weeks.
