New Canada LMIA Rules Now In Effect

With effect from April 1, 2026, Canada has made significant modifications to the Labour Market Impact Assessment that have an impact on applications for the low-wage Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

The two primary government changes are a new mandate to target youth in recruitment efforts for low-wage LMIA applications and an extended advertising period of at least eight consecutive weeks.

Between April 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027, participating provinces and territories may also be subject to separate temporary rural measures.
