Beginning on September 8, 2026, Canada will implement new counter-tariffs on hundreds of goods produced in the United States that affect virtually all areas of Canadian retail.
The Department of Finance Canada initially released the tariff schedule on August 25 and then updated it on August 26.
After 254 fish and seafood classifications were removed and nine other items were added, the revised list has 629 tariff items covering $27. 6 billion in yearly imports from the United States, down from the original 874.
Customs tariff classifications or items are denoted by the number 629, not necessarily by 629 distinct retail products.
