South Africa’s work visa reform plans slowed by tax issues

The need to change tax laws has delayed South Africa's intention to introduce a so-called nomad visa for remote workers in an effort to draw more experts to the country's skills-starved economy.

The obstacle follows a first delay in which it was necessary to temporarily revoke modifications to the visa regime due to a failure to follow mandated public consultation processes. In 2022, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared in his state of the country speech that he intended to institute a visa for remote work.
