Hard-To-Fill Skills Pilot was announced by the government of Saskatchewan on November 25 to meet the labour market needs of the province.

The introduction of new pilot program will aid the province’s employers immensely to recruit international talent and fill in the positions that were vacant otherwise. The eligible jobs will enable workers to enter Canada under low and entry level positions which might also require on-the-job training. Nonetheless, these job positions are essential for business to continue to grow and function properly. Highest in-demand sectors that require overseas workers are: health, manufacturing, agriculture, agri-tech, construction, hospitality and retail.

Scheduled to launch by December 2021, people nominated through this program shall receive support from their employers and the community of Saskatchewan. There is an eligibility criteria for this pilot program as well. To get invited you must meet the following requirements.

For Applicants:

  1. The applicant must have a full time and permanent employment offer in addition to having a job approval letter for an eligible occupation
  2. The applicant should also meet the basic entry requirement of Canada like fulfilling the minimum language, educational and work experience requirements.
  3. They should have at least one year of prior work experience in the same occupation category as their job offer
  4. They candidate can also have six months prior work experience in the same job in Saskatchewan

For Employers:

  1. The employer offering the job must be a registered one
  2. They must be able to prove that they made all possible efforts to fill in the job position with domestic labour availability before opting to recruit using the new pilot program.
  3. They should be able to demonstrate the need and benefit of hiring overseas employee for their business and fulfil the requirements related to providing settlement support for the workers.

Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison stated that the demand for labor is constantly increasing in the province with many new economic projects being announced this year.
