APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR QSW BRIDGING OPEN WORK PERMIT

Published date: 21st September 2021

Concerning the worries of skilled workers in Quebec, those who have an upcoming expiry on their Work Permits and have already submitted their permanent residency application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada are now eligible to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit.

The main purpose of a BOWP is to help the foreign skilled workers currently residing in Quebec and give them a chance to retain their jobs while their permanent residency applications are being processed. Because of increasing immigrations to Canada while fighting other global & economical factors, the processing time for permanent residency application has been a little slow. The average time to process one application is given 24 months or so by IRCC. Many work permits end before the approval of their PR. Therefore the government took this matter into consideration.

BOWP will aid these workers in meeting the time gap between the expiry of their Work Permit and application approval for PR by IRCC.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • The applicant must have already submitted permanent residency application to the IRCC as a Quebec Skilled Worker
  • The applicant must have received an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) and acceptance of documents by the IRCC
Note: Make sure that you get a completeness check done by an IRCC official that entails the officer approving your documents, form, information, evidence, signature and fees required to apply for BOWP program.

CAN YOU INCLUDE YOUR FAMILY UNDER BOWP?

Another advantage of applying to BOWP is that the Spouse/Common-Law Partners of the primary applicant are eligible too to apply for Bridging Open Work Permit if their names have been included in the PR application.

FOR HOW LONG IS YOUR BOWP VALID?

Putting into consideration the delayed processing time for permanent residency visa application of skilled workers of Quebec, when issued a BOWP, the validity for the same would be for at least 24 months or for the length of the applicant’s passport validity.

Bridging Open Work Permit is not only helpful for the workers but it also helps the Quebec labor market to maintain their economy to a certain level.
