Nova Scotia adds 3 New Occupations to their PNP

Many businesses all over the world experienced labor shortages because of the pandemic. The province of Nova Scotia in Canada was one of them. Their tourism, restaurant and hospitality sector saw a decline in terms of proper functioning because of less number of work forces. As a measure taken to rectify this, Nova Scotia has now started accepting applications from food service workers through their Occupations in Demand Stream. They have added three new occupations to this stream all of which have the NOC:

  • NOC 6513 (Food and Beverage Servers)
  • NOC 6711 (Food Counter Attendants, Kitchen Helpers and Related Support Occupations)
  • NOC 6731 (Light Duty Cleaners)

Nova Scotia: Occupations in Demand Category

This stream targets the people who have the skills, knowledge and experience to work in NOC C & D category. There are various jobs in this category but their relevance may change from time to time in accordance to the labor market needs of the Nova Scotia province.

Eligibility Criteria for Occupations in Demand Category

To apply in Nova Scotia’s Occupation in Demand Stream, an applicant must fulfill the given eligibility criteria:

1. The candidate should have full time + permanent job offer from an employed based in Nova Scotia

2. The job must come under one of the given NOC Codes:

a. NOC 3413 (Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates)

  b. NOC 6513 (Food and beverage servers)

c. NOC 6711 (Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations)

  d. NOC 6731 (Light duty cleaners)

e. NOC 7511 (Transport truck drivers)

f. NOC 7611 (Construction trades helpers and laborers)

4. The candidate must have 1 year prior work experience related to their job

5. The person applying can be of the age group 21-55

6. They should also have a high school diploma

7. Acquiring appropriate training, skills and/or accreditation for the job is also necessary

8. The candidate must successfully prove their language ability in English/French compatible to Canadian Standards

9. They should be able to show enough financial resources needed to successfully settle in the province
