In March 2027, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is expected to introduce a complimentary pre-filled tax return service that might cut down on the amount of time spent entering information during tax season for approximately one million Canadians with straightforward filing situations and low incomes.
Using income statistics, tax receipts, and personal data it already has on file, the agency will create a complete return in your CRA My Account, which you can then review, make adjustments if necessary, and submit.
Canadians must, however, take action on one date before any of that occurs: October 31, 2026. That date is not a payment deadline for quarterly taxpayers or the typical filing deadline of April 30.
