Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released its most recent processing time data on July 22, 2026, which is primarily characterized by a sustained rise in citizenship certificate backlogs and considerable progress in a number of permanent residency streams.
The processing period for citizenship certificates has increased to 19 months, with an additional 17,500 candidates joining the queue since the previous reporting cycle.
Following a March 2026 low of just three months, this marks the third consecutive month of significant gains in this group.
