Temporary Skills Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)

This Australian visa subclass enables an employer to fill in a job position with offshore skilled workers that they were unable to fill with the currently residing Australians because of a number of reasons.

Streams available under TSS (Subclass 482)

Short-term Stream

This visa subclass is put in effect to aid the Australian employers who are unable to find suitable candidates amongst the skilled Australians to fill in the job positions and meet the prevailing labor market demands. It allows them to hire offshore skilled workers. The applicant should:

  • Undergo and acquire a positive skills assessment (if applicable)
  • Get nominated in any one of the eligible skilled occupations mentioned in the Short-term Skilled Occupation List
  • Have prior work experience of 2 years in either the nominated or related occupation
Through this stream, the applicant can stay from 2 to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) is applicable.

Medium-term Stream

This visa subclass is put in effect to aid the Australian employers who are unable to find suitable candidates amongst the skilled Australians to fill in the job positions and meet the prevailing labor market demands. It allows them to hire offshore skilled workers. The applicant should:

  • Undergo and acquire a positive skills assessment (if applicable)
  • Get nominated in any one of the eligible skilled occupations mentioned in the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skilled List or Regional Occupation List
  • Have prior work experience of 2 years in either the nominated or related occupation
Through this stream, the applicant can stay up to 4 years.

Labor Agreement Stream

This visa subclass is for skilled workers nominated by the Australian employers who have a Labor Agreement with the current government. This allows you to temporarily like and work in the country. The applicant should:

  • Undergo and acquire a positive skills assessment (if applicable)
  • Get nominated in any one of the specified skilled occupations mentioned under the Labor Agreement
  • Have prior work experience of 2 years in either the nominated or related occupation
Through this stream, the applicant can stay up to 4 years. This can vary depending on the terms of the labor Agreement.
