IRCC Extended Online Study Time for Offshore Students till summer 2022

IRCC is extending eligibility for Post Graduate Work Permit in terms of online mode of study for offshore students. Now, the candidates who opted for online mode of study whilst impose of Canadian travel restrictions, will now be able to count that period of study to apply for a PGWP till August 31, 2022. Earlier this period was ending on December 2021. This has resulted in an extended duration for students to complete their program online itself and still be eligible to apply for a PGWP.

Students will now be able to complete 100% of their program through online mode of study if the program/course was ongoing or started between March 2020 and summer 2022. The only condition of the course should be that it must be pursued from an eligible Designated Learning Institute and must end within 2 years.

How to ensure that you are eligible for a PGWP?

To determine your eligibility to apply for a Post Graduate Work Permit, you must meet the following criteria:

• If your course/program is for a duration less than 8 months then you won’t be able to apply for a PGWP
• If your course/program was for the duration of at least 8 months but less than 2 years then, you might be able to secure a PGWP for the same duration or less as of the program
• If your course/program was for the duration of 2 years or more, you will be able to secure the PGWP for the duration of 3 years
• If you completed more than one course/program then, you will be able to secure a PGWP for the duration equivalent to the length combining the length of each program
